Standard Bank plc has announced that the 2026 Be More Race edition will be held on June 20 at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe under the theme ‘keep growing.’

The bank’s chief risk officer Kondwani Mlilima said in an interview that this year’s edition, which was launched in Lilongwe on Labour Day with an aerobics session, aims to inspire positive lifestyle and fitness while celebrating the power of perseverance, personal transformation, and growth.

“We intend to keep improving the experience of the Standard Bank’s Be More Race. This year, we continue using the electronic tracking system to ensure that there is accurate tracking of race times and amplify the experience of the race afterwards with the fitness marketplace to ensure that the race remains a premium experience for all runners,” he said.

Mlilima said this year’s edition builds on the success of previous events, with a renewed focus on inclusivity, wellness and community engagement.

He said: “This year’s Keep Growing theme focuses on the growth of the race since 2017 and the commitment of Malawians towards growth and resilience.

“The theme speaks of an idea we all understand, that growth is not always easy, but it is always worth it. Whether in life, business or on the race course, growth requires determination, consistency and the courage to push through discomfort. Running is a powerful metaphor for this journey, every step forward counts.”

On his part, Athletics Malawi (AM) president Kondwani Chamwala acknowledged Standard Bank’s commitment towards the development of athletics through the Be More Race.

He said: “AM greatly appreciates the special attention Standard Bank plc is giving to athletics through Be More Race. Last year’s partnership with the bank was a resounding success and we expect to build on that momentum.

“At the same time, we have noted renewed appreciation for the sport from both novice runners and the public.

“We are also grateful to the bank for the innovations and increased prize money to athletes.”

Registrations and ticket sales  for the event started on May 1 and will run up to June 12. Tickets range from K10 000 for children between the ages of four to eight and K25 000 for  professional runners in the 2-kilometre race.
